Introducing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower & ACON Welcome Here Initiatives

Everyone is welcome. Everyone is supported.

At Australia Square, we believe that every individual deserves to feel welcome, respected, and supported. We are proud to champion initiatives that create spaces where everyone can confidently be themselves. Through two key initiatives, the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program and the ACON Welcome Here Project, we’re taking meaningful steps to support our diverse community.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program

Making inclusion visible

Through programs like the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative, we make the invisible visible. This global symbol allows people with non-visible disabilities – such as autism, chronic illness, or sensory sensitivities – to signal their need for support. Worn as a lanyard, badge, or wristband, the Sunflower indicates that someone may need a little extra time, help, or patience.

What we do:

  • Train staff to recognise and respond with empathy

  • Commit to creating an accessible and respectful environment for all

ACON Welcome Here Project

Celebrating LGBTQ+ inclusion

We proudly participate in the ACON Welcome Here Project, promoting visibly inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ communities. By displaying the Welcome Here rainbow sticker and charter, we’re sending a clear message: You are welcome here.

What you’ll see in our centre:

  • Rainbow Welcome Here signage at entrances

  • Staff trained in inclusive service practices

  • Support for LGBTQ+ events and awareness days
